Most classical schools spend a lot of time on their homepage. And that’s exactly the problem.
It’s not that the homepage is ignored—it’s that it’s overthought, overstuffed, and still underperforming.
We’ve seen welcome letters that scroll for miles, beautiful photos with no clear call to action, and navigation menus that read like a faculty handbook. For all the energy poured into the homepage, too few actually guide parents toward the next step.
Here’s why that’s costing you enrollment—and what to fix now.
Why the Homepage Is the Gatekeeper
The homepage is the first and often only impression prospective families will have. In a model like classical education—where your value isn’t obvious to the average parent—your homepage has to do three things fast:
- Communicate who you are
- Spark curiosity about the school
- Offer a clear path forward
If it doesn’t? They click away—often without ever seeing your admissions page.
What’s Going Wrong (Even on Beautiful Sites)
Here’s what we see over and over again:
- Beautiful photography, but no clarity of message
- Thoughtful mission statements, but no clear call to action
- Detailed navigation menus, but no obvious entry point for new parents
- Multiple competing CTAs or none at all
It’s not for lack of effort. It’s for lack of enrollment strategy.
3 Fixes That Actually Convert
1. Say Something Bold, Not Just Beautiful
Most schools start with “Welcome to Our School.” You can do better.
Try something with perspective, like:
“Forming Hearts and Minds Through Timeless Truth and Rigorous Learning.”
Make it about your unique value, not just your building or location.
2. Give One Clear Next Step
You don’t need four buttons on the homepage. You need one.
- Schedule a tour
- Request information
- Start an application
Whatever it is, make it the star of the page, not buried beneath photos and introductions.
3. Trim the Menu
The more pages you show, the fewer get clicked. Your homepage nav should focus on 5–7 key pages, with Admissions always in the top tier.
And avoid this trap: putting enrollment steps in PDF form only. Parents shouldn’t have to download and scroll a document to figure out how to apply.
