Anyone can build a website—but not everyone can build one that works. Before you commit, ask these five questions to make sure you’re hiring someone who won’t disappear, overpromise, or underdeliver.
1. What happens after the site launches?
A good designer has a plan for updates, support, and hosting. If they say “you’ll be on your own,” keep looking.
Our Answer: We typically host the sites we build, which allows us to fix issues proactively and provide long-term support. When updates are needed—like new text, changing hours, or swapping a headshot—we can either train you to make the changes or take care of them for you. Most small edits are handled within 24–48 hours.
2. How will this site actually generate leads?
Great design means nothing without strategy. Ask how they approach layout, CTAs, and performance. If they can’t explain it clearly, they’re winging it.
Our Answer: Every site and audience is different, so we tailor Calls-to-Action to fit your visitors’ mindset. When it makes sense, we also implement email capture systems so you can build, track, and nurture leads—turning casual visitors into real clients.
3. What do you build with—and why?
If they’re using a platform you can’t easily edit or update later, you’re stuck. WordPress is reliable. Custom code for no reason? Red flag.
Our Answer: We use WordPress 99% of the time because it’s powerful, well-supported, and easy to edit. We build it in a way that’s user-friendly, even for non-tech clients. We don’t hard-code HTML sites—because no one should need a developer just to change a phone number.
4. Who owns the site when it’s done?
Make sure you get full access and ownership of your domain, hosting, and files. If they lock you into proprietary systems, you’ll regret it later.
Our Answer: You do. Always. We may host your site on our server stack, but you retain full ownership of the domain, files, and content. And yes—we use a third-party hosting partner (we’re not running a server out of our basement). They’re fast, reliable, and proven—and we act as the support layer between you and them.
5. Can I see examples of sites you’ve supported long-term?
Anyone can show off a launch. Ask to see a client they’ve supported for 3+ years. That’ll tell you everything about their reliability.
Our Answer: Absolutely. We’ll send over a list of clients we’ve supported for 3+ years—many of whom we still work with monthly. It’s one of the things we’re most proud of.
If your web designer can’t answer these, you may be paying for problems.
